“使学生有所作为” 

To make a difference in a student’s life

自2015年十月入职海亮教育以来，Melanie始终秉持着“使学生有所作为”的信念，为学生倾注了全部的心力。“我来自一个贫困的家庭，所以我不得不努力工作。但在经历了许多挑战和失败之后，我从来没有丢失我的本性，我是一个富有同情心、无私和有爱心的人。为什么我总是把时间和精力花在学生身上呢？因为让他人开心就是让自己开心，看到一个微笑着、心怀感激的学生会我让想起我来海亮的初衷。” 

Since joining Hailiang Education in October 2015,  Melanie has always been committed to the belief that students can make a difference, so she has poured all her heart and soul into the students. “I come from a struggling family and have had to work hard all my life. But through many challenges and failures I have never lost who I was born to be, a compassionate, selfless and caring person. So, why am I always giving my time and energy to the students? Well, making other people happy makes me happy, seeing a smiling and grateful student is a reminder of why I am here at Hailiang.

在Melanie的日常生活中，海亮的学生永远是第一位的。她认为，没有学生的生活，就是没有乐趣的生活。不管学生是在为学习而苦恼还是学习小有所成，他们都会需要各个方面的帮助。到海亮后，Melanie相信记住每个学生的名字是非常重要的，因为准确叫出每个学生的名字能让他们意识到他们是重要的。同时，把学生姓名写在黑板上，也是一个很好的维持纪律的方式。年复一年，Melanie与学生共同成长，并且他们的目标也一直在与时俱进。“如果他们需要我，我会一直在他们身边，无论他们是需要食物，渴望关注，渴求知识或只是需要一个简单的拥抱和微笑。我把我的生命献给了海亮的学生，就算有一天这些珍贵的时刻会逝去，我也依旧维持本心，不会改变。”

Hailiang students have first priority in Melanie’s daily life. She said, A life without students is a life without pleasure. Whether the students are struggling or achieving high scores, they all need a helping hand. She learned after arriving at Hailiang the importance of knowing every students' name. It is good, because it lets them know they matter and also it is a good tool for discipline when you are writing on the board. The students grow together with Melanie year after year and their goals change each year. “If they need me, I am there for them. I will always help a starving student,  whether they are starving for food, attention, knowledge or just a hug and a smile. I have given my life to Hailiang students and I wouldn’t change one day that has passed of these precious moments.”

We are family

在海亮的日常生活中，无论我走到哪里，对我来说，校园里所发生的事就如同家里的事情一样重要。我和同事建立了深厚的情谊，他们已经成为了我在中国的家人，在实现目标的过程中，我也会一直陪伴并且激励他们。作为海亮大家庭的成员，我们互相帮助；工作之余，我们会帮助学生参加比赛，参加同事的婚礼，在生活的方方面面互相支持。”

In our daily life at Hailiang, everywhere I go on campus or event that may be happening family is always important. Having built relationships with my colleagues that have become my family in China, or it could be the High School Foreign Teachers that I inspire along the way to achieve their goals. As a Hailiang family, we help each other with; spending time outside of work, helping the students with competitions, attending weddings and supporting each other in every aspect of life. 

在海亮的生活很舒适。住在美丽的校园里，每天早上步行去上班是一种简单的快乐。中外教师一起工作和生活是一种独特的体验。家庭归属感来自内心，在海亮的每一天我都有家的感觉。

Life at Hailiang is comfortable. Living on a beautiful campus and walking to work every morning is a simple joy. Having Chinese and Foreign Colleagues to spend time with and work alongside of is special. Family comes from the spirit of the heart and I feel at home every day at Hailiang.

当我自己的孩子不在身边的时候，是海亮的学生给我带来了欢乐；在学生最困顿迷茫的青少年时期，我也为他们带来了欢声笑语。总而言之，我们是一家人。

The students bring the joy of my own ildren in their absence; I bring the joy to the students in their teenage years which happen to be the most difficult time in adolescence. At the end of the day, We Are Family.

海亮追求亲情，注重为父母树立榜样，Melanie“以校为家”的这一观念也是海亮家庭精神的又一体现。

Always pursuing relationships and setting a good example for the parents is another way to show the family spirit at Hailiang. 

丰硕成果

Achievements

在海亮执教五年，Melanie负责并教授国际课程如常春藤班、NCC课程、雅思、托福、ELS、迪肯学院和IGCSE。同时，她也帮助了多名学生取得优异成绩并帮助他们顺利留学国外名校。Florence同学成为海亮首个雅思成绩7.5分，并被伦敦大学录取；多名学生雅思成绩达到7.0分。她带领学生参加比赛，获得2018北京中央电视台戏剧一等奖。

Having taught in Hailiang for five years, Melanie has been in charge of many programs such as Ivy League Course, NCC Course, IELTS, TOEFL, ELS Course, Deakin Foundation Course and IGCSE. She also helped many students get good grades and go abroad to study in prestigious universities. Florence was the first student ever to get a 7.5 IELTS his first time and was admitted to the University of London. Besides, there are many students who got a 7.0 IELTS with the help of Melanie. Her students won the 2018 CCTV Beijing Drama 1st Prize.

同时，Melanie个人也成绩斐然。入职以来，她先后被海亮教育集团评为：2016年度最佳老师；2016年度优秀员工；2017年杰出工作者；2019感动海亮十大人物。

Along the way she has been selected as Teacher of the Year 2016, 2016 Top Staff Member, 2017 Outstanding Worker and 2019 Role Model of the Year.

Melanie说，“成功只有在经历失败后才会出现。当你谦虚并为自己渴望的激情而努力时（例如，学生的幸福和成功），成功有时也会被忽略。”

Melanie said, “Success only comes once you’ve experienced failure. Success sometimes goes unnoticed when you are humble and working hard for a passion you so desire students happiness.

我有幸获得海亮感动十大人物的奖项，这是我人生中最值得纪念的奖项。因为它不仅代表了我，还代表了我所代表的身份以及与我相似的人。在外国教师和学生中树立榜样是一项艰巨的工作，它需要保持一致性，耐心，理解力，灵活性以及教导他人拥有一颗善良的心。但是，重要的不是我们如何实现目标，而是要关注我们一路为之提供帮助的人。

I am so lucky to be blessed with the Role Model Award, and it would be a pivotal moment in my life, as it fits who I am, what I stand for and resembles the teacher and person that I am. Being a role model to foreign teachers and students is a tough job, it demands consistency, patience, understanding, flexibility and teaching others to be successful with a kind heart. It’s not how we get there that is important ; it is who we have helped along the way.

教师有国籍，教育无国界。外籍教师们虽然身在异国他乡，却在自己的岗位上默默地奉献着自己。海亮外语中学每分每秒的发展，都离不开每一位教师的付出与努力。期待海亮外语中学更好的明天。

Teachers have nationalities while education has no borders.  Although working in a foreign country, foreign teachers have dedicated themselves silently in their posts. The development of Hailiang Foreign Language School cannot separated from the efforts of every diligent teacher. Looking forward to a prosperous future of HFLS.
